On Tuesday, Karen helped us explore the idea that, in Christ, we are holy and blameless before Him in love.
Ephesians 1:3-4 (NIV)
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
Holy means set apart for God in order to reflect His purity. Blameless means free from blemish. One trap we can fall into is telling ourselves we are “hopelessly flawed.” We can focus so much on our limitations, failings, and shortcomings that we keep our heads down, looking at the ground. We might even consider it virtuous to think about ourselves this way, but this is a false humility. It does not glorify God to stay stuck in our sins or failings when He is telling us we are holy.
He set us apart before the creation of the world! He says we are blameless in His sight! So we have a choice to make. Are we going to believe our feelings or the word of our Lord? Which voice will we listen to?
Some practical things we can do to remember the amazing perspective God has of us…
First, write out two columns… “I feel…” and “I know.” Acknowledge what you’re feeling, but also affirm what God says about you and Himself in scripture.
Secondly, allow your Father to speak His truth lovingly into your heart. Take the time to listen! The Spirit is speaking affirmation and love to you. Consider how you can allow Him to heal hurt places in your heart.
Thank you, Karen, for your insight! What an amazing God we have!
