Spiritual Maturity in Christ

How far are you from spiritual maturity? This past Tuesday, FoFers’ had the privilege of hearing Pastor Zaremba speak on perfection. For starters, perfection in Greek means the same thing as maturity. Spiritual maturity is marked by a rediscovery of you; but this time, however, it is yourself in Christ. Christ wants us to be mature in him. If we start to be interested in why God acts the way He does as opposed to being interested in the acts of God, we are on our way to spiritual maturity. Maturity, or perfection, is living like Christ because it’s simply the best way. It’s (spiritual maturity) visible! You get a sense of a new identity in Christ; voluntarily and spontaneously desiring to act like Christ. Hebrews 5:13-14 says “Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Let’s take Peter for example. By the time he sat down to write 1st Peter, late in his life, a lot had changed. You can sense the change in the very words he chooses: words like humble and submit. It contains nothing of the brash, aggressive style evident in the Gospels. Gruff Peter has become a tender shepherd. To get the full impact of Peter’s transformation, you must read about him in the Gospels (especially Mark). The man who sliced off an ear in Jesus’ defense now advises submission to every government authority. Now he earnestly commends Christ suffering as an ideal. God’s Word in your life is like a seed sown into the ground. If it has been sown, it will grow. Similarly, if, while reading your Bible, you sow God’s Word into your minds and grasp its essence with faith, God himself, without any effort on your part, will make it come true in your life. So, I ask again…How far are you from perfection?

What do „Swish” and „Uno” have in common?

Uno Swish Crew!

It was a night where you could play out of turn, if you had the same exact card as the one that was just put on the pile.  Oh, and yes you could do this only if you said the word, “Swish,” as you laid down the card.  If you didn’t say “Swish” then you had to pick up two cards.  However, if you were the next person and laid the exact same card and then said “Swish” you were only playing the next play and not really “Swishing” so you also had the “honor” to pick up two cards as well.  What????  Oh, and yes, if you laid down the card “0” you could exchange cards with someone else, even someone who just called out “Uno”!  Yes, the game is a bit crazy and called “Uno Swish”!

The room at Sweet Surrender where we met was filled with the words “Swish” and “Uno!” but also a few groans were heard as rules were broken and 2 cards were given or WILD-DRAW 4, REVERSE, SKIP or DRAW 2 cards found their way to the pile -  quite often more than one in a row.  It was an evening of laughter and getting to mix it up a bit with people from other countries as we had people joining us from Australia, Austria, England, Germany, Norway, Poland and the USA.  Not bad for a gathering in a café in Poland!

IN CHRIST WE ARE LOVED

As we explored Christ’s love this week with Emi, we were reminded that there is more to God’s love than we normally think of love.  It is much deeper, longer, higher and more wide than we can imagine.  Perhaps it should be called, all-encompassing:

Christ’s love begins with HIM – not us, God’s love at times can be tough, God’s love is affectionate, timeless, God’s love is secure.  There are many more aspects of God’s love, but these were some key areas that Emi used to show us the expanse of God’s love.

It was good to reflect together on God’s love.

Hope to see you at the Bake 2 Bless event coming up next -- March 18 - 19!

In HIS love!

Isaiah 54:10 (NIV) "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you."

4 W's plus an Intro

Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  (NIV)

The above verses are called ‘The Great Commission’ and call us to tell others the Good News.  In short the Good News is that the relationship between God and ourselves and between ourselves and other people, can be restored through a relationship with Christ.

The focus of Tuesday's FoF meeting was living purposely to engage others with the Good News because of the great God we serve and His call to us to share the good news!

The focus was led-off by Juice as he read a thought-provoking chapter about the call to live with the eyes of a missionary and then it was followed by Aldolfo inviting us to consider how our daily lives would look if we were missionaries instead of students.  Amanda had us take a look at how God reveals “ALL his authority” by leading us in delving into Psalm 29 and Eirik helped us take an in-depth look at Matt 28:18-20 while focusing us on Jesus having ALL authority to help us in pursuing His command to us to reach all the earth.  Finally, Theresa challenged us to take action by being a part of the upcoming Bake to Bless event, so we can be a blessing to all nations.

Just a quick word on the Bake to Bless event, you will hear more about it at 10:00am at Poznan International Church on Sunday, March 13 at "Dąbrówka" Piątkowskie Centrum Kultury, Osiedle Bolesława Chrobrego 117.  Hope you can join us as we kick off the introducing this fun event to bless the medical students!

Hugs to all!
